A baby monitor has a nursery unit and parent unit. The nursery
unit has a controller for generating a privacy code, a microphone
for detecting baby sounds and a transmitter for transmitting a signal
made up of the privacy code and the baby sounds. The parent unit
has a receiver for receiving the signal, a controller for comparing
the privacy code to a reference code, and an amplifier and speaker
for outputting the baby sounds. The baby sounds are output by the
parent unit if the privacy code matches the reference code. The
nursery and parent units have a scrambler and descrambler respectively
for scrambling the signal.
A baby monitor system with a parent unit communicable with a baby
unit a soothing unit is provided. In an embodiment for the baby
monitor system of the present invention, the baby unit is responsive
to receiving a signal representative of an audible sound transmitted
from the parent unit and the parent unit is responsive to receiving
a signal representative of an audible sound transmitted from the
baby unit. In an embodiment for a method of the present invention,
a method for monitoring a baby is provided. The method includes
the steps of receiving a signal representative of an audible sound
at a baby unit from a parent unit, receiving a signal representative
of an audible sound at a parent unit from a baby unit, and actuating
a soothing unit included in the baby unit

A baby monitor system incorporated into a receiver of the baby
monitor circuitry that can remotely control an electric or electronic
device when the output sound level of the receiver reaches a reference
level. The control can be by infrared, radio frequency or hardwire
transmission of a volume control command to the electric or electronic
device. By incorporating this control system into the baby monitor,
a parent is ensured to hear sounds of a baby. |
