A portable hand tool, for holding an elongate needle cap so that
a syringe needle can safely be inserted into the cap, has a lever
structure comprising a pair of juxtaposed, mating, pivotally connected
levers. The levers at their front ends have marginal edges defining
a cap receiving opening parallel to the axis of pivot. The structure
provides a wall functioning as a base for the opening and a spring
normally biases the front ends of the levers to a closed cap gripping
position. The levers are operated by squeezing their rear ends to
achieve a cap receiving and releasing position.
A syringe needle assembly including a needle having at least one
point for use in a syringe assembly, including a needle shaft with
at least one point at one end for entering the patient and one end
for engaging the syringe, and a puncture-proof sheath surrounding
a major portion of the needle shaft and normally extending substantially
the entire length of the shaft while leaving said needle point exposed,
the sheath including at least one radially expanded inner portion
joined by a portion attached to said shaft, the radially expanded
portion being axially compressible to force the sheath to slide
in the direction of said point along said shaft to extend beyond
and non-retractably cover said point. The present invention is specifically
adapted to sheath a single pointed or double pointed needle.
A hypodermic syringe needle destroying apparatus and method using
electrical resistance heating between electrodes which are convergent
either geometrically or by virtue of relative movement to conduct
incinerating currents first throughout the entire length of the
contaminated needle and thereafter over progressively shorter lengths
until the entire needle is destroyed. Any remaining needle stub
can be removed or deformed while in its heated state by impacting
it against a deforming barrier.
A combination sheath and shield for enclosing the needle of a hypodermic
syringe and for preventing finger punctures during replacement of
the sheath over the syringe needle, which includes a sheath that
telescopically encloses the needle and frictionally engages the
support portion for the needle and a sheath having foldable flaps
that are foldable along the sheath during nonuse for compactness
during shipping and storage.
